Binkie’s 2009-2010 Spring/Summer Collection — Heart of Darkness — takes inspiration from Joseph Conrad’s novella of the late Victorian era. Conrad’s tale set on a river journey into the heart of Africa is dark; exploring the depths of the human condition, and good versus evil. The river is steeped in symbolism, it takes on snake-like characteristics as does the wilderness of the jungle. Binkie’s new season designs reveal a deadly cast of candidates from somewhere equally sinister and savage. Drift off into the dark continent, this metaphorical heart of darkness.
